Bowen Island is forested, mountainous, and rocky. There are also more deer than people. Bowen gardeners tend to be pre-occupied with getting enough topsoil to grow stuff in (and preventing it getting washed away in the winter rains), and protecting what they have grown from deer. We tend to become quite knowledgable about deer-resistant plants.
